Overview
Sanjay Varma is a Master Mariner and maritime expert witness with over 30 years of experience in marine operations, casualty investigation and port safety. With 17 years of sea service up to Master, he has sailed on VLCCs, OBOs and multi-purpose vessels before transitioning into marine consultancy and regulatory roles.
He has served as Assistant Director of Ship Accident Investigation at the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and has conducted investigations for flag and port state authorities. Sanjay regularly acts as an expert witness in arbitration and court proceedings across Singapore and Malaysia on matters involving oil cargo contamination, liquefaction, unsafe ports, collisions and marine warranty surveys. He combines operational experience with regulatory expertise, making him a highly respected authority in maritime disputes.
